For years, this wasn’t the case till 1995, when PMG and CEAT realized the need of establishing a system which would recognize and reward players for their exceptional performance. Fittingly, three legends of the game, Clive Lloyd, Ian Chappell and Sunil Gavaskar put their heads together to come up with the CEAT International Cricket Rating System.
CEAT Cricket Rating (CCR) was the first of its kind in the cricketing world. It named Brian Lara as the CEAT Cricketer of the year in 1996, and since then CCR has kept pace with how the sport has evolved. CEAT T20 Ratings was introduced in Oct 2007 when the game’s ‘slambang’ version- Twenty20 cricket, started becoming a rage. Herein, the rankings parameters included batsman’s strike rate and a bowler’s economy rate.
